The Russian Cultural Centre in Dhaka was established in June 1973, and organizes scientific, educational and cultural activities, including exhibitions, film shows, and seminars, marking important dates in the lives of Russia and Bangladesh.
In addition to its 220 seat air conditioned auditorium with acoustic system, and wide screen projection facilities, the Center has a film library with 150 feature films (16mm and 35mm) in English, Bengali and Russian. Except the 16mm and 35mm projectors the Center also has a multi media projector which fulfils the needs for VCD, DVD or VHS screening purpose.
The Russian Cultural Centre has a newly renovated air-conditioned Exhibition - hall and a 100 seat air-conditioned Conference hall.
The library has more then ten thousand books in Bengali, Russian and English, and features not only literary works, but also books on law, engineering, medicine, history and physics. Newspapers, magazines, audio-video materials, a rich collection of Russian Classical poetry and materials for learning the Russian Language round out the collection.
The Cultural Centre's education section offers Russian language courses designed to introduce students to both the Russian language and the broad spectrum of Russian Culture. Scholarships for selective language course students are also offered each year. The education section also deals with students who wish to undertake higher studies at any educational institutions within the Russian Federation on a self-financed basis.
Translation services are also offered, working from Bengali and English to Russian and vice-versa.
Other courses on offer include modern dances, aerobics, classical music, fine arts, guitar, piano and sculpture to name but few. The Volga Club, Chekhov Theatre and Sergei Bondarchuk Film Club are also affiliated with the Russian Cultural Centre.
